Welcome to the Vet Balance blog

My name is Kate and I am on a wellbeing mission!

I will start with a confession. A few years ago, after 15 hectic years working full-time within the veterinary profession, my wellbeing was pretty poor. A few years ago I had a sort of ‘moment of awakening’. I realised I was sleep-walking through life, missing its wealth of variety, my balance tipped firmly towards my vet identity, without much room for much else.

Coaching formed a significant part of this new self-awareness, allowing me to wake-up to my reality. It also helped me understand what was missing, and importantly gave me a nudge to take action. I made changes, turning down my vet dial and tuning into other areas of life, such as exercise, mindfulness, and actually having fun. I am not going to hold myself up as an example of perfect balance but the mental shift to making balance a priority has made a big difference. It has actually made me a better vet too.

I am now an accredited wellbeing trainer and offer coaching too. I want to help other professional people who may be feeling the same as I was just a few years ago.

I hope this blog will be a source of interest for those individuals who want to prioritise their own wellbeing and for those managers who want to encourage better wellbeing within their workforce.

I hope you enjoy it and I welcome your feedback.

  1. Hi Kate!
I saw your post on VSGD on side hustles and I was instantly drawn to your post. In working as a small animal vet for the last 14 years, I too feel a natural draw towards coaching and counselling, and to just helping people in general. Veterinary practice has offered us insight into this kind of counsellor role. As we both know our role as vet not only deals alot with the animals but to a large extent the owner’s emotional wellbeing aswell. I was wondering what courses you did to qualify as a life coach? I am also considering becoming a therapist but I am at the stage where I am finding out about both as I have yet to make up my mind.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Best wishes,
    Kate (i’m a Kate too!)

    1. Hi Kate.
Thanks so much for getting in touch. I do think both coaching and counselling are great diversification roles, but they are rather different to each other. If you pop me a message in the contact section I will get in touch with you and we can talk it through on email/or on the phone. Happy to answer any questions you may have and tell you my experience of coaching.
I look forward to hearing from you.
      Best wishes,
      Kate šŸ™‚
